Taylor Swift 1989 vs The Tortured Poets Department: Which Vinyl First?

Quick Answer

If you want the biggest tracklist and most vault content, start with 1989 (Taylor's Version). If you prefer a limited-edition collector's item with a unique color variant and a bonus exclusive track, go for The Tortured Poets Department.

Trade-Offs at a Glance

• 1989 (Taylor's Version) 2LP Deluxe Edition: Start here if you want maximum tracks and vault discoveries. You get 21 songs, 5 of which are brand new to you, and you can pick from 4 cover editions.
• The Tortured Poets Department 2LP Vinyl: Choose this if you value a limited-edition collectible. The ghost white vinyl and exclusive bonus track make it a rare find, but you get fewer tracks overall.
• Sound Quality Considerations: Both are 2LP sets, which generally means better sound quality than a single LP because the grooves are wider. Neither release specifies a pressing weight or mastering detail, so assume standard quality unless you have a high-end setup. If you're an audiophile, check for specific pressing details before buying.
